The Great Painted Hall

Visitors reception transformation for the Old Royal Naval College's masterpiece

Following a 2 year restoration, Europe’s largest painted interior, the Painted Hall in the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich, has re-opened to the public. The restoration project undertaken by Hugh Broughton Architects included the complete refurbishment of the vaulted King William undercroft as a new welcome area, cafe and shop. From the outset we have collaborated with the architects to provide all the bespoke joinery for the shop and the full height banquette seating. To co-ordinate with the magnificent glazed bronze screen at the far end, the main retail desk, welcome counters and display cabinets all featured dark bronze patinated brass cladding.

“We were at the Painted Hall last night for a special reception for VIPs. All your joinery was looking so good – thank you so much for all your efforts” Hugh Broughton.
